Pleasures

Interface FLOR Tiles

I needed a rug for my dining room that was contemporary in style, durable and easy-to-clean enough to be used under our main eating area (including baby!), and affordable. What I found was that if it looked cool, I probably couldn't afford it, and if it was that good, I'd be heartbroken when it inevitably ends up smeared with strained carrots.

In the pursuit of proving that life doesn't have to end when you have a baby, Jeff and I took 8-week old Arlo to the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, TX.

Jeff and I just returned from a week at the Burning Man phenomenon in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Once again, it was a magical experience that touched our hearts and inspired our creative spirit. I've assembled some snapshots of our time there.

Bingo with My Aunts

aunts

There's a first time for everything, including Bingo. My dad's sisters—Suzy, Cissi, and Franny—are devoted Bingo players. Every Thursday, they go to the Millvale Fire Station along with hundreds of fellow bingo-ers to try their luck. As I was swinging through Pittsburgh on my way back from visiting my parents, I had the opportunity to join in on this family ritual.

Yes, me, your favorite urban hipster playing Bingo. And you know what? I had a ball.

Here are a few of the things I learned:

Jeff and I spent a week in Italy with a bunch of our friends from San Francisco. I had been wanting to go to Tuscany for a long time, and I was not disappointed.

I've been getting lots of requests to put photos from the trip online, so here you go!

Boys Are Sexxy!

While going through boxes of my old belongings at my parents' house last week, I discovered relics from my early publishing career. I used to love making books when I was little. It's no wonder I became a book designer later in life. Here are a few samples from when I was just 5 and 6 years old.

Even better, be like my friends, Ellie and Adam, and tell all your friends to vote, too. Here's an excerpt from Adam's email this morning:

SXSW 2003!!

I've just returned from my yearly trip to Austin, TX for the South by Southwest Interactive Conference and Music Festival. As always, I had a wonderful time. This year's trip was divided into two distinct portions. First, I got to see my web friends (although not as many as in years past) and do the things we usually do at the Interactive conference.

So you say you're opening a Chinese restaurant, but you're stumped as to what to name it? My clever husband built this amusing little tool just for you.

[NOTE: You need Flash player to use the restaurant namer. If it is not detected, you will be transported magically to Macromedia.]
